Stance · Effective 19 August 2026
Stance estimates how your body is stacked from a side-profile photo. This page describes exactly what happens to that photo and to everything else the app handles. It describes what the app actually does today, not what it might do later.
What Stance handles
- Your scan photo. The side-profile photo you take or choose.
- A device identifier. A random value generated on your device, used only to rate-limit requests. It is not your Apple ID, your advertising identifier, or anything that identifies you personally.
- Your answers to the onboarding questions. These stay on your device.
- Subscription status. Handled by RevenueCat and Apple.
- Usage analytics. Anonymous events such as "a scan started" or "a routine was completed", including the resulting posture score. Analytics never include your photo.
Where your photo goes
This is the part worth reading closely.
- Your photo is captured on your device and sent over an encrypted HTTPS connection to our analysis service.
- That service forwards it to Anthropic, which scores the alignment, and to fal.ai, which generates the "you, upright" preview image.
- Stance operates no database and keeps no copy of your photo on its servers. The photo passes through and is not retained by us.
- The photo itself is stored on your device, so the app can show your history and compare a rescan against an earlier one.
- The generated preview image is hosted by fal.ai at an unlisted address. It is not indexed or linked anywhere, but it is not password-protected either.
Your photo is never sold, never used for advertising, and never used to train anyone's models under our account settings.
Companies that process data for Stance
- Anthropic — scores the posture photo.
- fal.ai — generates and hosts the preview image.
- Supabase — runs the service that passes requests to the two above.
- RevenueCat — manages subscriptions and receipts.
- PostHog — anonymous product analytics, in App Store builds only. Analytics are disabled in development and TestFlight builds.
- Apple — processes the payment itself.
What Stance does not do
- No tracking across other apps or websites. The app contains no advertising SDKs.
- No selling or renting of personal data.
- No account, no email address, no password. Stance never asks who you are.
Not medical advice
Stance gives an opinion from a photo. It is not a measurement, a diagnosis, or medical advice, and there is no evidence-backed "correct" posture — the vertical line the app compares you to is a convention, not a clinical standard. Talk to a qualified professional about pain or any health concern.
Your choices
- Deleting the app removes every photo and score held on your device.
- Camera and photo-library access can be revoked at any time in iOS Settings.
- Write to us to ask what is held about you or to request deletion.
Children
Stance is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly handle their data.
